burning bright!

Happy New Year to you and yours! We hope you had a fantastic festive season and are now fully emotionally recovered for the exciting second half of season seven. It’s hard to believe we’re at the halfway stage already. How on earth did that happen? It seems like only a few weeks ago we were saying a very sad farewell to Glenn and Abraham, wondering how Rick and the survivors were going to recover, enjoying the introduction of Ezekiel and Shiva, and ruing every painful confrontation with Negan and the Saviors. It’s been quite a ride so far, and we know that there are some big surprises to come before the season comes to a close. Even so, it’s scary how quickly time flies when you’re having, er, fun(?). At least, readers…

out of darkness cometh light

It seems like only a few weeks ago that we were impatiently awaiting the arrival of AMC’s The Walking Dead’s seventh season, and yet here we are, already at the halfway stage (and desperately trying to catch our breath). Before we look ahead to the back eight, and report everything we know, we’re going to bring you some news that will surely ease the longing. The Walking Dead is getting an eighth season. We repeat: The Walking Dead is getting an eighth season. Now, this isn’t really too much of a surprise given the show’s continued success in the ratings, but it’s still nice to have it officially confirmed, right? “Eeny, meeny, miny, more,” AMC’s president and general manager, Charlie Collier, cheekily declared when he announced the news. “What a joy to…

claws out for adlard

We’re huge fans of Charlie Adlard here at TWDM, so it is with great delight that we announce that the massively talented comic book artist has been named the UK’s new Comics Laureate. As fans of The Walking Dead comic book will know, Adlard has been an integral part of Robert Kirkman’s award-winning series since issue #7. That was a whopping 12 years ago and it’s now impossible to think of the bestselling comic – issue #162 of which is out this month – without picturing Adlard’s distinctive and extremely cool art style. The artist isn’t just known for The Walking Dead though. He’s also contributed to – and won plaudits for – Savage, The X-Files, Mars Attacks! and Judge Dredd, as well as working with Nobel Prize winner Doris Lessing on…

the rights of passage

Pining for AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead while it’s on hiatus? Well, we have some tasty news for you – especially if you are the kind of person who pops the kettle on during commercial breaks (as it means you’re unlikely to know this yet). Following the success of Flight 462, AMC is currently screening another 16-part Fear The Walking Dead companion mini-series, entitled Passage. These compelling weekly installments, which have been airing since October 2016 during the commercial breaks for The Walking Dead’s seventh season, have – to date – seen a “fearsome survivor” coming to the aid of an injured woman “in exchange for an apocalyptic sanctuary.” We don’t know yet whether any of the characters in the new mini-series will make it into Fear The Walking Dead’s third season,…

oh! what a lovely war

‘The Whisperer War’ came to its shocking conclusion this month (January 2017), when issue #162 of The Walking Dead comic was unleashed on readers. For fans of Robert Kirkman’s iconic publication, this was exciting news for several reasons. Firstly, that storyline. Wow! Just wow! Without giving anything away, it was a six-parter that thrilled and spilled (literally) and – once again – flipped the series on its head. Secondly, it meant that we at TWDM (and, by proxy, you guys at home) were able to get our hands on the last of the variant covers (all gorgeously drawn by Arthur Adams and Nathan Fairbairn), as well as the regular covers (which were typical Charlie Adlard beauties). Did you know that the Adams/ Fairbairn covers connected? You didn’t? Mind blown, we’re guessing.…

carl of the wild

Another issue, another delicious haul of goodies from McFarlane Toys. Gosh, we love you guys! Out in February is a brilliantly rendered – and wonderfully up-to-date – Carl Grimes action figure (RRP $19.99). Standing at seven inches tall, the youngest original Atlanta survivor is dressed in his TV attire from season six, which includes a bandaged head, a removable bloodied poncho and his now-trademark hat (also removable). Carl joins his father Rick Grimes on store shelves. An originally painted, five-inch action figure of the team leader in his constable uniform was released as a Walmart exclusive in November last year (RRP $14.99). As per McFarlane Toys’ usual impeccable standards, it’s a thing of beauty (see ‘Body Parts’ for more). And just in case you missed the subtle heads-up last issue (sorry!), new Glenn…
