When we started putting together this September issue of Western Art Collector on the editorial side, we got a little giddy. Well, more than giddy I will say. We were delighted with what we saw before us. First of all, and more generally, we love wildlife art and being able to showcase new examples of the best wildlife art to collectors each month is one of the simple joys we get from publishing this magazine. passion for plein air

What began in 2007 as a group of artists gathering together to share their love of painting the Land of Enchantment has grown today into a full-fledged nonprofit arts organization with 146 members, including 15 signature members. Plein Air Painters of New Mexico (PAPNM) works to uphold the value of painting in plein air and immersing oneself directly with the landscapes in which they paint, providing regular opportunities for members to paint together during monthly “paintouts.” PAPNM also hosts annual juried and open exhibitions of members’ work, including the upcoming PAPNM 11th National Juried Members Show. The event, which runs October 4 to 27, features 150 juried works by New Mexico-based painters and others, with artists like Damien Gonzales, Lee MacLeod and Barbara Coleman in attendance during previous years. Artists working in a wide assortment of media will be on hand September 27 and 28 during the 23rd annual Art of the Sangre event in Westcliffe, Colorado. The art event is largest fundraiser for the San Isabel Land Protection Trust, which protects land, water and wildlife in Pueblo, Custer, Fremont and Huerfano counties. The land trust has already protected nearly 41,000 acres of working ranches, agricultural and forest lands, water resources, wildlife habitat and scenic open spaces throughout southern Colorado. On September 5 the Museum of Western Art in Kerrville, Texas, will open its 36th annual Western Art Roundup Exhibition and Sale. The exhibition will feature more than 120 works from 45 top Western artists. Some of the artists in this year’s show include Jason Scull, T.D.
