The new series of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me out of Here!, which began on ITV on 17 Nov, pulled in a huge audience, with 10m watching a fresh batch of celebs enter the jungle. It easily beat BBC1’s new drama The War of the Worlds (4.7m). Bad blood New BBC2 series Vienna Blood, which began on 18 November, struggled to get off to a good start, with just 1.8m tuning in to the opening episode of the period crime drama. It couldn’t compete with ITV’s I’m a Celebrity…, which claimed 9m.…

Best known for… Niall was most recognised for playing Father Frank MacAnally (AKA Father Mac) in BBC1’s Ballykissangel, which was set in a remote Irish village and ran from 1996 until 2001. The hit show also starred Stephen Tompkinson, Colin Farrell and Dervla Kirwan. Other achievements… The Irish actor starred in the movies Ryan’s Daughter (1970) and Far and Away (1992). In 2003, he played Judge Ballaugh in Veronica Guerin, alongside Cate Blanchett. Family life… Niall died, aged 89, in Dublin on 13 November. His wife, Judy, died in 2002 and he’s survived by his five children.…

lyra’s shock discovery!

HIS DARK MATERIALS Sunday, 8pm BBC1 Drama Lyra finds herself in danger in this week’s episode when things take a sinister and dramatic turn, and she finally discovers what has happened to all of the missing children. Entering a bleak, icy facility, she is shocked to spot her much-missed old friend Roger among the kids, all of whom have been assembled for a brutal programme of experimentation, which involves separating children from their daemons.
