There was a time when a steakhouse was more often than not an object lesson in culinary disappointment… a sad prawn cocktail – long before they became sought-after in a retro way – followed by a leathery steak of questionable origin, cooked any way except the way you had actually requested. And to round off the meal, the cheque would invariably make you wince. Happily, times have changed and steakhouses now boast culinary kudos and even Michelin stars thanks to innovative menus, impeccable ingredients and expert execution. IT WAS a sad day on November 5 as Cathay Pacific shut the doors on its popular The Arrival lounge in Hong Kong to make way for the airport’s terminal redevelopment plan. At this stage it remains unclear whether Cathay will open a new facility – the airline has stated that it will continue to explore “new ways and partnerships that enhance [its] product and service offerings”, but admits that availability for an alternative location is currently limited and not especially suitable. Located on Level 3 between the airport’s two terminals, The Arrival lounge was a regular stopping point for early arrivals into the city. cathaypacific.com…

award winners

THERE’S GOOD NEWS for fans of All Nippon Airways’ (ANA) premium economy offering with the airline recently announcing that it will be making miles redemption for premium economy award tickets possible starting this month, with upgrades from economy to premium economy due to follow in 2020. Currently, ANA only allows members of its Mileage Club frequent-flyer programme to redeem miles for award tickets in first, business and economy class, while upgrades are restricted to first and business. However, from December 5, Mileage Club members will be able to use their miles to book premium economy award tickets for flights departing on April 1, 2019 onwards. And while upgrades to premium economy won’t be available until April 1, 2020, the change is certain to be a welcome one for premium economy fans. ana.co.jp…
