Safety first
As is stated on so many signs, motorsport can be dangerous. Thankfully, though, whilst that danger will be ever present, constantly evolving safety measures ensure the risk of serious injury is kept to a minimum. We’ll be bringing you the full feature on Santa Pod’s Main Event in a future issue, but before then wanted to highlight how safe modern drag racing machinery has become. On the Saturday, the Thermoreg Racing, Ford Mustang bodied Funny Car driven by Kevin Chapman hit the wall head on, and was immediately engulfed in a fireball. The flopper body parted company and the chassis then crossed the track, before coming to a halt pretty much upside down after striking the opposite wall.
