MAR EXPLORE Balenciaga: Winter 18, the first book from Demna Gvasalia’s tenure at the label, is less a work of literature than it is a full immersion behind the scenes at one of his ultra-exclusive shows. Gvasalia personally selected the images and was closely involved in the book’s creative direction, making it perhaps the only tome as covetable as one of his oversize shoppers. (rizzoli.com) READ What started as Lilly Pulitzer’s “spillproof” pattern from her days running a juice stand is now, 60 years later, a splashy, multimilliondollar fashion enterprise. Assouline’s sumptuous new book looks back at the Palm Beach lifestyle brand’s greatest hits and, of course, the queen of prep herself (as seen here, photographed by Elizabeth Kuhner). March is Women’s History Month, anchored by International Women’s Day on March 8. Last year, IWD was commemorated not just by celebrities Instagramming their love for their mothers, daughters, sisters, friends, and wives, but also by worldwide strikes that saw women charging the streets of London, Madrid, New York, and beyond to demand better pay and an end to harassment. At ELLE, we consider it a tremendous privilege to be able to highlight inspirational women not just on March 8, but every day of the year. In the following pages, you’ll find women who are dominating their fields, from our cover star, Gigi Hadid, who has become one of the highest-paid and most-followed models in part for her infusion of style with substance (“Gigi Does Rio,” page 257), to House Speaker…

1. THE REBOOT Claude Montana, aka king of the shoulder pad, was famous for catering to powerful women. In the ’80s, he dressed the likes of Cher and Charlotte Rampling, and went on to inspire acolytes including Riccardo Tisci and Alexander McQueen. Now the e-commerce site Farfetch has partnered with the vintage site Byronesque to re-create 11 of Montana’s classics. It turns out his over-the-top throwbacks are just as glamorous now as they were then. (farfetch.com) 2. THE NEWCOMER As a member of the Swarovski family, Marina Raphael knows her way around accessories. At just 19, the young Greek designer secured a coveted exclusive with e-tailer Moda Operandi for her sleek, square-handled totes and half-moon clutches. Each piece of Raphael’s spring 2019 collection (her second) is produced in Florence. (marinaraphael.com) 3. THE SECOND ACT “I…

ALI KRIEGSMAN AND ALANA BRANSTON Imagine a store where everything in sight, from faux-fur bombers to Pepto-Bismol–pink boiler suits, is made by a female-run brand. That’s the idea behind Bulletin, the online shop (which also has three brick-and-mortar stores in New York City) that Ali Kriegsman (far left) and Alana Branston (left), former sales execs at a branded-content firm, founded in 2015. They fill their site with more than 150 female-led brands and lease out sections of their stores on a month-to-month basis to lower the barrier to entry for fledgling lines. They also give 10 percent of their proceeds to Planned Parenthood of New York City—as of last year, they’d raised over $92,000 for the women’s health organization. (bulletin.co) RESHMA SAUJANI Sixty-six percent of girls ages 6 to 12 say they are…

As an entrepreneurial activist, tech mogul, and mother of two, she’s always bouncing between meetings and after-work events, so there’s not always much time left for her to style her hair. As a result, she’s become a pro at learning how to keep her hairstyle going strong between shampoos with TRESemmé’s newest Between Washes Collection. Follow along with Meena as she works to empower women across the country, whether that means meeting with local politicians or making big plans with her Phenomenal Woman team. Even on days when she’s got a fully packed schedule, with the right TRESemmé Between Washes products tucked into her bag, she’s…
