This has to be one of my favourite times of the year. As we transition from winter to spring and the days gradually become lighter, I find my mood brightens and I begin to look forward to the year ahead with new-found optimism. It’s the perfect moment for pondering home improvements – and whether you’re on the hunt for some new furniture or thinking of updating room schemes, you’ll find plenty of inspiration in this issue. I’m particularly taken with the fresh looks in our Style Inspiration section, starting on page 26 – each one very different, but all equally appealing. If it’s a new kitchen or bathroom on your mind, you can’t fail to be impressed by our readers Cathy Otty and Kate Moerel who have both managed to…

sharing a love for making

In their light and breezy Thames-side studio in south-east London, textile designer Carys Briggs and furniture-maker Andrew Mason are enjoying their calm space. It’s here that the creative energy for their finely finished furniture and lively print textiles – the trademarks of Stoff Studios – is in full flow. It’s a happy dovetailing of skills. ‘When it came to my final project at art college, which is where we met,’ says Carys, ‘we decided to make a couple of one-off pieces together: a screen-printed stool and a laminated daybed. We really enjoyed working as a team and realised we benefited from each other’s input. That was how it began; it was all quite organic.’ The creative duo are bound by their relentless curiosity. ‘If we ever buy any furniture, Andy will immediately…

shop of the month caro

TELL US HOW IT ALL BEGAN… I previously worked as a trend forecaster in London, but I relocated to Bruton to start a new life with my husband, who had been living in a neighbouring town. Having not really found a company that I felt suited to, and with past experience of working as a project manager, I was keen to embark on a more creative route. I’d always wanted to work for myself, so I decided to open a shop! I haven’t looked back and can’t imagine my life any other way now. WHAT’S THE ETHOS BEHIND CARO? We aim to create enriching experiences that connect and nourish us. As a huge supporter of bricks-and-mortar shops, I believe that the spaces we visit can determine how we feel, giving us the escapism…
