max and kate

Max and Kate are picking pumpkins. Kate wants a small one. Max wants the biggest one he can find. “Charlie, you can help us look,” says Kate. “I’ll take this one,” says Kate. “It’s so cute.” “And it’s got a lucky ladybug sitting on it!” says Max. Max finds a big, round pumpkin. “Wow!” says Kate. “Yours has a green grasshopper on top!” “Where’s Charlie?” asks Max. “He’s probably looking for a teeny tiny pumpkin, just his size,” says Kate. “Let’s go show him ours!” Down the path is the biggest pumpkin they’ve ever seen. She looked down at her shoes. Her left sneaker was a size larger than her right, so the brace could fit inside. Maya felt unsure about wearing the brace to school, even though it was decorated with a pretty butterfly pattern she had chosen from a book at the doctor’s office. It was supposed to help her walk more smoothly, and it did make her feel solid and steady as she picked…

ladybug, muddle & thud

In p.j.’s, I slip off to sleep and drift up through the clouds piled deep. Tucked in my bed that’s now a rocket to a land of lakes of steaming hot chocolate. Ladybug is captain of a marshmallow ship plowing through bergs of chocolatey chips. And when someone has a real hankerin’ that’s when we drop the anchor in. Through an inlet to Sodie-Pop Sea I plot a new course—well, it’s all new to me—through currents of flavors and clouds of bubbles, I’ll work to steer the ship out of troubles! Muddle, Ladybug, and I dive under to meet new friends in a sweet land of wonder: angel-cake angelf ish with frosted f ish tails, waff le squid, pie crabs, and licorice whales! We climb out onto the crunchy-nut beach, with three good questions,…
