garden on the roof

On the rooftop of our building there’s a dirt patch full of weeds. But not for long! I pull them out. And then, I plant some seeds. They’re only tiny specks, at first. I water them each day. They sprout beneath the glowing sun. New baby plants! Hooray! I wait and wait. They grow and grow! Tomatoes turn bright red, as carrots, peas, and yellow squash all fill my garden bed. We bring home lots of different snacks from supermarket shelves, but none are quite as tasty as the ones we grow ourselves!…

For Leona’s birthday, she got a pair of shoes. Not boring shoes! They were sparkly blue bunny shoes. When Leona wore her new blue shoes around the farm, they made her feel sparkly inside. The little bunny faces made her so happy that she hop-hop-hopped! Leona wore her sparkly blue bunny shoes everywhere she went—even to bed sometimes when Mama wasn’t looking.
