hark the monarchs

BARELY one month into the year we got news of the shocking abdication of Sultan Muhammad V. It was the first time ever that an Agong ‘resigned’—three years short of the usual five-year tenure. Under the monarchy rotation system, by right, the next in line is the Sultan of Pahang, but due to his ailing health, the Regent, Tengku Abdullah was sworn in as the sixth Sultan of Pahang, paving the way for him to become the next Yang di-Pertuan Agong. With the current public interest in monarchy, we think it has never been more timely to have a regal-themed issue, starring Puteri Badrinise and Tunku Mohammed Alauddin Naquiyuddin. In our exclusive interview with them, they discuss about what it’s like to raise royal kids in these modern times, and we…

The mood was cheerful; the two young and spirited girls, Tunku Alaynna and Tunku Azalea were fresh off school and watched as their parents posed lovingly and embraced one another—making it all seem natural, despite the large camera crew waiting to capture the right moment. Suffice to say, we did, and it made our cover photo! Jokes were thrown around about how one half of our cover stars, Tunku Mohamed Alauddin Naquiyuddin brushed up quite well and looked dashing in his attire, warranting queries from the crew about whether Omega should consider him to be the next James Bond(ish)…

KIM MUN This KL-based photographer captures the candid moments featured in our cover story, Modern Royals What would your final meal be? I’d definitely like to have something my mom cooked. If you could choose a super power what would it be? To be able to time travel. What’s the worst holiday you’ve ever had? A trip to Pangkor Island once. Everything went wrong from the start of the holiday as my car broke down in the middle of the highway and had to be towed to the mechanic. Once fixed, I had to rush to the Lumut jetty and catch the last boat to the island. Who would you most like to be stuck in a lift with? Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock, because he would likely be able to get us out in no time. BIBIAN LEONG This hair…
