the heart of gifting

“Giving is not just about making a donation. It is about making a difference.” So says United Nations president Kathy Calvin. There are so many great causes out there that are in need of aid; likewise there are many different ways in which to serve, but the most important thing is to find a way to give back in whatever capacity we are able—whether it’s one’s time, money, talents or connections—and at the same time discover which gives us the most fulfilment. A cup of foamy flat white kick-started her day on the set while Nicole sipped on black coffee during her make-up preparation. Reminiscing Jim Leng’s first cover photo shoot with Malaysia Tatler, back in August 2014, she fondly recalls how that shoot ended with Nicole serenading the crew with a display of her musical prowess on the grand piano. “Now we both share the limelight,” said Jim Leng cheerfully as she helped her daughter into a classy beige and black dress by Bottega Veneta which she termed as “very modern” for the cover shot. The ladies bonded with the stylist as they discussed the looks to go for,…

Sarah Saw This stylist drapes our cover personalities in beautiful Bvlgari pieces What is your family tradition for the holidays? It’s always Christmas Eve at my parents’ then Christmas and Boxing Day at my sister’s with the whole turkey affair—which involves a whole lot of feasting, drinking and unboxing presents. Who would you rather meet—Santa, his elves or Rudolph? His elves, so I can have cute little helpers with me all the time. Would you say you were in Santa’s good or naughty list when you were a kid? Naughty for sure. I was (and probably still am) such a rebel: persistent, outspoken and wild as a kid. You can only play one Christmas song on repeat for the whole day. Which would it be? Carol of the Bell by John Williams. Shawn Lor This photographer shoots two of our holiday…

for a better tomorrow

Previously known as the Red Ribbon Gala, and now as the Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Award gala dinner—the esteemed event means to honour well-deserved parties, acknowledging their extraordinary determination and steadfast commitment to champion a cause that supports communities negatively impacted by HIV/AIDS. This December 14th, the Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Award Dinner will take place at the Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur, led by the chair of the gala committee, Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir. The winner of this year’s award will not only be announced on the night of the gala dinner itself, but will also be joined by past honourees, harking back since the award’s conception in 1996. And as per tradition, honorary guests Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tun Dr Siti Hasmah will be attending the prestigious fundraiser as…
