Digitisation has almost made everything available at the touch of our fingertips and has been causing a major shift in working and creating new avenues for expression. It’s all well and good, however, I don’t think it can take the place of a tactile experience as the environment surrounding us and the things we come into contact with help us perceive situations more intensely. Take our cover story with Tunku Nadia Naquiyuddin and Arafah Edruce, who have based their careers on deejaying and performing. With clubs shutting down because of the pandemic, they have thought of going virtual, but they don’t think the effect will be the same because as performers and artists, they feed off the energy of the crowd, and vice versa. In our interview with them, get to…

Hyping up the reveal of Asia’s Most Stylish 2020 in our October issue, Tatler Malaysia held the AMS One Night Only fashion event in where else but the premier shopping destination in the heart of the city—Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. Known and greatly admired for their distinctive personal style, and possessing an undeniable mix of verve, confidence and sophistication, Alicia Amin, Kavita Sidhu, Roberto Guiati, Ally Mukhriz, Dato’ Sri Bernard Chandran, Lee Jim Leng, and Scha Alyahya came out in full fashion force that night, and were given the red carpet treatment, naturally. “I’d like to say how proud I am of these eight Malaysians who have made it to this year’s regional top 100 for always putting their best fashion foot forward—you guys are truly fabulous,” announced Geraldine Beh, the managing director…

On October 1, we unveiled the 29 honourees from Malaysia on the Gen.T List 2020 at an intimate event at OpenHouse KLCC. They are part of the 400-strong list of honourees this year—a culmination of extensive market research, consulting with the panel of industry insiders, plus vetting meetings across the region that altogether took 10 months. Tatler Malaysia’s managing director Geraldine Beh started the evening with a warm welcome to everyone who came that night, saying how proud she is of the bright minds and talents who are being recognised for their achievements. Because of travel restrictions, head of Gen.T Tamara Lamuniere and editor Lee Williamson who are based in Hong Kong were not able to come, however, they made a video to say hello to the new honourees, inducting them to…

“Running in six-inch stilettos is my superpower,” says Shaleen Cheah as she slips into said high heels, and stands—easy as you please—with barely a wobble in her step as she glides across the room in her shimmery blue design. Having witnessed her sprinting on the street in albeit lower, less-likely-to-break-your-ankle shoes, we could most certainly attest that it was her superpower. And while her stint as a national athlete at the age of 15 may have contributed to that skill, her determination was a clear motivator that has carried her (as well as her feet) throughout her extensive career journey; from runner, actress, model, pageant contestant, commercial banker, mother of three and now fashion designer of her eponymous label, Cheah was a force to be reckoned with. “I do well under pressure.…
