WELCOME TO THE April issue of PB. This issue is a celebration of excess – in particular the Kawasaki H2R. Launched a year ago, the H2 and the mega-power, track-only H2R were introduced on a wave of hype, the likes of which we’ve not seen for a very long time. And in many ways rightly so – these were bikes that were truly innovative and hugely exciting. But actually gauging the H2R’s performance has been hard. It says something about the expectation surrounding it that when we first thrashed one up a runway we were disappointed it ‘only’ did 206mph and ‘only’ made 250bhp at the business end of its Bridgestone slick. But now we’re the first magazine to test it back-to-back on a track, and the results are truly impressive. On equal…

pb’s big question

MATT WILDEE EDITOR matt.wildee@pbmag.co.uk Lorenzo all the way. He’s at the peak of his career and the bike suits his style. SIMON RUSSELL ART EDITOR simon.russell@bauermedia.co.uk Pre-season, the Yams seem best, but I foresee an Aussie-shaped curve ball... CHRIS NEWBIGGING FEATURES EDITOR chris.newbigging@pbmag.co.uk Lorenzo again. Marquez and Rossi will be too busy drawing out their silly feud JOHN McAVOY ROAD TESTER editorial@pbmag.co.uk I predict Michelin will be champions at the end of the season... and a Spaniard MICHAEL RUTTER TRACK TESTER editorial@pbmag.co.uk I’d like to say Rossi, but it’s going to be Lorenzo. Once he’s in front, that’s it MARK WHITE TECHNICIAN editorial@pbmag.co.uk I honestly can’t call it this early. But it will be the most dramatic season yet RUPERT PAUL CONTRIBUTOR editorial@pbmag.co.uk After watching ‘Hitting the Apex’ I’d really like it to be Dani Pedrosa SIMON HARGREAVES CONTRIBUTOR editorial@pbmag.co.uk Casey Stoner for the win at Phillip Island. And world champ in 2017 KAR LEE CONTRIBUTOR editorial@pbmag.co.uk Now, I’m not saying it will be but…

zx-10r vs s1000rr the cold, hard and fast facts

RACE RESULTS BE damned: so far the ZX-10R hasn’t quite matched the S1000RR as a superbike for ordinary riders. The Kawasaki lacked the suspension, electronic finesse and grunt of the BMW, and since the previous ZX-10R rolled out, BMW updated the RR twice, needing only to hone and fettle the basic design to keep it ahead. There’s no need for a revolution when you comfortably outsell the opposition. The Yamaha R1, Ducati Panigale and even the Aprilia RSV4 also left the old ZX-10R for dust. PB’s first ride at Sepang last month revealed the suspension and handling were sorted, and the addition of a Inertial Measurement Unit (and Kawasaki’s own sophisticated programming) has improved the electronics to a point where they’re almost unnoticeable in operation. It’s back in the game. We were fizzing…

suter confirm tt entry for two-stroke 500

A MODERN-DAY TWO-STROKE 500GP bike will be lining up against four-stroke superbikes at this year’s TT as Suter have confirmed they will be competing with their MMX500. Despite the bike’s two-stroke V4 motor having a 576cc capacity and it not being a production road bike, it is still eligible to race in the Senior and Superbike TTs, setting up a mouthwatering prospect. Can you imagine the sound of a 195bhp V4 stroker as it screams its way over the Mountain or down Bray Hill? The 2016 TT just got a lot more exciting! Suter Racing is a very familiar name in the MotoGP paddock and they aren’t going to the TT just to make up the numbers. The firm has an enviable record when it comes to track success and are the…

less is more

TYRES This is the first bike to get Pirelli Diablo Rosso III rubber as OE fitment. The grip they offer means you’ll rarely bother the ABS. SHIFT OF POWER Peak power is lowered, peak torque chimes in earlier. Changes to intake/exhaust cams, pistons and new exhaust are responsible. ELECTRONICS The new 800 features eight-stage traction control, switchable ABS and a quickshifter (with de rigeur autoblipper). GEOMETRY An increase in the Brutale’s rake and trail lend its front end more stability to cosset newer riders. 2016 MV AGUSTA BRUTALE 800 CHRIS NEWBIGGING THE BRUTALE 800 might mark the dawn of a new era of common sense from MV Agusta. Note the caveat – we’re talking about Italians, and they’re liable to go wild again and begin spouting about ‘passion’ at any moment. But the 2016 overhaul of the middleweight roadster…
