all hail the new king

Jeffrey Herlings celebrated his first MXGP World Championship with a dominant win on the infield of the Assen TT circuit in his home country of the Netherlands. Herlings came into the season a cofavorite with reigning nine-time FIM World Champion Antonio Cairoli but started gapping the veteran in points as the wins piled up. Despite a broken collarbone that caused him to miss one round of the series, Herlings set new records for moto wins, Grand Prix wins, and points scored on his way to the title. reason for being

They say you never realize just how much you’ll miss something until it’s gone. Well, some of us are probably finding that out right now in regards to Amsoil Arenacross, long a fixture of the U.S. racing calendar in the fall and winter months. Feld Motor Sports made the tough choice earlier this year to end the tour, which had lost some of its luster and prestige in the past decade. bench-maker extraordinaire

Shania Helmick works across the building here at Racer Productions in graphic design and production. She also enjoys woodcraft, and before the DC Vet Homecoming, she created this beautiful bench as an homage to High Point Raceway and its founders, Dave Coombs Sr. and brothers Jack and Carroll Holbert. The bench includes photos from the track’s rich history, which goes back to September ’76. We lost both Big Dave and Carroll along the way, but Jack Holbert is still out at the racetrack on his tractors for every event. We got him to climb down off his beloved red McCormick long enough to sit on his bench and take a break. Well done, Shania!.…

danny’s maine event

MX207 track boss Danny Stuart had a busy week for the 2018 running of the Racer X Maine Event after a torrential downpour on the Wednesday night before the event. He was bummed, to say the least, but then he went right to work. Truly a jack of all trades, Stuart was on the dozer for countless hours to get the track and facility grounds prepped and dry by the time everyone started rolling in. Come Friday, it was perfect, and along with his duties of event promoter, track prepper, podium announcer, and drainage expert, he was able to get out and do what he loves most: film some excellent motocross racing. Thanks, and see you next September, Danny!…
