Aleks Cvetkovic Based in London, journalist Aleks Cvetkovic has written for the Financial Times, The Telegraph and The Jackal, among others. In this issue, he shines a light on six of the most successful menswear boutiques around the globe in “Shop the World” (page 66) and details how to wear an old sartorial favorite in “Corduroy Goes Large” (page 70). When not penning regular style coverage for Robb Report, Cvetkovic is busy with his content consultancy, HandCut Studio. Peter Ross Peter Ross has shot for magazines, corporations, advertising agencies and (often) himself. In this issue, for “The Answers” (page 82), he photographed James Fayed of British shirtmaker Turnbull & Asser at the brand’s New York headquarters. “I was excited to discover the building rose from its lower floors of traditional, polished luxury retail…

The first answer—because there are two—is that they are all the products of the extraordinary mind of the late Iraqi-born architect Zaha Hadid. The second answer is that all three star in different parts of this special design issue of Robb Report that you have in your hands. While preparing this month’s magazine, we canvassed an array of influential experts across a wide variety of disciplines: car, watch, yacht, interior, jewelry and fashion designers; architects and chefs; creative directors and gallerists. And then, in a moment of mischief, we also plotted a rundown of…

When Triumph dubbed its motorcycle the Rocket, it wasn’t kidding around. The third-edition bike comes equipped with the world’s largest production motorcycle engine—a 2,500 cc beast that generates an industry-best 163 ft lbs of torque, which is 71 percent higher than the competition. It’s an added bonus that the Rocket 3 looks good, too. The trio of exhaust headers add an architectural flare and deliver a satisfying growl as you hit the road—but you’ll have to wait until December to experience it.(triumphmotorcycles.com)…

healing waters

Mark Thornton, a retired army staff sergeant working as a defense contractor in the Middle East, was thrown 35 feet in the air when the fuel tank he was inspecting suddenly exploded. He landed on a string of barbed wire with life-changing consequences. A spinal injury in his mid-thorax left him paralyzed from the chest down. Thornton’s challenges are, to varying degrees, shared by thousands of injured American veterans. His therapy, however, is not. Thornton decided to pursue surfing, using a specialized board for his disability. He credits his time in the ocean, more than anything else, for giving him a renewed sense of accomplishment. “Surfing is actually one of the most effective therapies we’ve ever found for combating depression as well as post-traumatic stress,” says Kyle “Buck” Buckett, CEO of…

the duel

You’d be hard-pressed to find a stronger sense of admiration than Sir Jony Ive’s for Dieter Rams. The two industrial designers may have created different products for different eras, but a sleek, “less is more” style—one that Rams himself championed 50 years ago—ties them together. Now that Ive has announced he is leaving Apple to start his own agency, LoveFrom, with Marc Newson, will Rams’s influence on him continue? Dieter Rams VS. Jony Ive DESIGN STYLE A mix of Bauhaus and the Ulm School of Design, summed up best as “less is better.” The 21st-century version of Rams. HOMETOWN Wiesbaden, Germany London, England AGE 87 52 IGNOMINIOUS BEGINNINGS He applied to Braun on a bet. When the company contacted him for an interview, he had forgotten all about it. He began his career at a start-up agency called Tangerine. The first thing…
