Vogue Living September - October 2017

Vogue Living tells stories that engage, fascinate and excite, weaving together a myriad of influences that inspire our lives, be it cultural trends, arts and architecture, a new secret find around the corner, a far flung destination, or a privileged glimpse into a private and compelling world. Interiors, spaces and places, here or there, come vividly to life through their inhabitants and the lens of the camera. Beauty is paramount.

Helle Walsted This Copenhagen-based stylist did not need much encouragement to travel to Majorca and work on our story on the home of artist Lin Utzon, daughter of Sydney Opera House architect JØrn Utzon (page 154) — they have been friends for years. “I first met Lin on a dog-sled tour in Greenland,” says Walsted, who has worked in advertising, fashion, interior design and magazines for many years. “We went with a group of Greenlandic hunters for several days and slept in small tents on the ice.” Walsted also styled our story on the home of interior designer Susanne Rützou (page 108). editor’s letter

It really is an honour to be caretaker editor of Vogue Living. I have been a fan since I pored over the pages of my mother’s issues as a teenager, and I have been struck by how loved the title is by so many Australians and fans around the world. In fact, last month in Italy I dined with Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness, who are passionate about interior design. Deborra-Lee told me that she too grew up loving the magazine and how much it influenced her tastes over the years. Tina Arena is another talent who loves the title, as she passionately declared at the 50th birthday celebrations of Vogue Living, where she sang this year. There is so much genuine goodwill towards the brand, which 50 years on remains…

I’m drawn to clean, bold, surprising forms and I enjoy creating work that is at once old and new, with an aura of antiquity about it. My father grew up in New Mexico and I’ve spent a lot of time there. It has really inf luenced my aesthetic. Now I’m making pieces for galleries and shops around Australia. I’m looking forward to showing my new body of work, Benevolent Universe, at the Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane, on October 20.” nicolettejohnsonceramics.com BRIGHTEN: The taste of spring is millennial pink and…
