That makes eighteen years of celebrating the VW Bus in all its forms, thanks to you all for supporting us over the years! Print is alive and kicking! street sleeper

He has spent his whole life working as a professional musician, and is presently engaged as Cruise Director onboard a Luxury Cruise vessel. When he manages to take some time off from the ships, he spends most of his time in Southern California and, for a long time, he owned a 1981 VW Westfalia camper which was used for both travel and camping. “One day, a good friend and fellow musician, who used to drive and maintain a VW bus back in college, showed me a picture of what he firmly believed was the ultimate VW bus: a Deluxe 23 window Samba… I immediately fell in love and was hooked, and so began my search for the Holy Grail of Volkswagen buses. It took some time, but eventually, in 2011, fortune…

news and products

Got any goodies you want to show us? All submissions are gratefully received. Be it news, an event, new products… we’ll do our very best to let everybody else know about it too. Email editor@volkswagencamper.co.uk, or if you want to be traditional about the whole affair: Address Editor, VW Camper & Commercial, Jazz Publishing The Old School Higher Kinnerton Chester CH4 9AJ SOTO Pocket Torch The ability to start a fire with a bow drill or by rubbing sticks is a cool skill to have, but not an essential one and it all becomes a bit pointless when faced with something like Soto’s Pocket Torch. Simply insert a cheap, rectangular disposable lighter into the base of the Pocket Torch and you have a fire starter that is wind resistant, reaches up to 2,300 degrees Fahrenheit,…

t3 syncro built not bought!

Shortly after getting it home I began insulating and lining it ready to convert into a camper for Hanna and I to use for music festivals and holidays. I’d never built an interior before and it was a challenge sorting out the wiring and design, but we settled with the design you see today. It’s very basic and has the bare minimum to be registered as a campervan on the log book. We’ve been to Busfest for many years, and Hanna fell in love with the syncro T3s that were on display and said, ‘I want one of those’ and I eventually suggested converting ours. After much eBaying, we found a set of 15x7 Ronal Pentas with 215/75 BFG all terrains, which looked amazing, I also built the rear bumper and…

camper mart 2020

The 2020 running of Camper Jam held at the Telford International Centre is the ninth time the event has been put on. It can’t really get any bigger due to the physical limitations of the building, but the quality of the vehicles on display and traders in attendance is always top quality. Don’t underestimate the draw of the event either, with people travelling from all over the UK to attend and to exhibit their buses too. There was a large contingent of vehicles displaying the Scarface Lowriders decals that had come up for the weekend from the South Coast. There was a couple at the front gate almost an hour before the car park was opened, who had come from Galway in Ireland and had left home at 4am on…

brochure line

We’re ‘orf’ to Devon to look at the last of sunny Sidmouth’s Splitty conversions Original VW sales literature As 1967 dawned Devon, or rather J P White, had been in business for the best part of ten years and yes, the company had moved with the times. Glossier brochures, a hint of colour, generally a greater degree of sophistication - all were in evidence. Of course, sadly the founding father of the company, Jack White, had died and Devon had been sold and amalgamated into a much bigger concern … but most think the upward evolution would have occurred anyway. For 1967, Devon offered an eight page 7” x 9¼” brochure, with a clever full-colour image on the cover. And the interpretation - the hard-working drudgery of black and white life suddenly bursts…
