welcome!

I'm delighted to have taken over as Editor of this great magazine! The past year-and-a-half has been the oddest of times and, certainly as far as the tractor preservation world is concerned, the ramifications have been many and varied. The agricultural show and steam rally programme has, of course, been decimated, with many events having been cancelled for two years on the trot. Most will bounce back once the regulations allow but some, I fear, will never be seen again, which is such a shame. Whether you're an exhibitor or simply an enthusiastic visitor, most of us will have our favourite shows; events that are regularly attended and which have become nailed-down fixtures in our personal calendars. For me, 2020 simply wasn't the same without trips to events like The Great Dorset…

congratulations alex

Congratulations are due to Alex Terrett, who recently completed a 101-mile charity road run on his beloved, French-made, 1957 Ferguson TFF-30DS. The event was staged on June 2nd, when glorious weather provided the ideal backdrop for the fund-raiser run that wound its way around the Cotswolds, near Malmesbury. John was flagged off on the marathon by co-workers, with the purpose of the event being to raise money in support of the charity MIND, which is dedicated to supporting individuals who find themselves struggling with mental health issues; something that’s, unfortunately, come even more to the fore as a knock-on consequence of the pandemic-driven lockdowns. Happily, the tractor performed impeccably, Alex completed the route and the total raised for the charity stands at an impressive £1,190. However, if you find yourself inspired by John’s…

a sad loss

We’re sad to report that the mid-Wales tractor scene has lost one of its great supporters, Les Price, after a long period of illness. Les, who was 77, farmed with his brother John at Nantmel and, together, they collected many tractors from local farms. He particularly loved his Ferguson 35 grey and gold, which he’d restored and used on many local road runs. For many years, John and his brother also organised the tractor display at the local Nantmel Show & Sports. Our condolences go to his family.…

old vehicles welcome

Given all the event cancellations over the past 18 months, it’s good to see that the rally, show and road run side of the hobby is starting to come alive once again. For readers in the southeast of England, here’s news of a couple of events offering the chance to get out and about with your tractor over the coming months. The organisers of the Bodle Street Green Fete, to be held on Saturday, August 21st, would like to invite owners of old and interesting vehicles – including tractors – to attend this friendly annual event in rural East Sussex (BN27 4UB). The fete takes place in the centre of the village and, among the other traditional attractions, the White Horse Inn will be offering a great range of refreshments. Also, later in…
