As we head into the new academic year, (hopefully one that is less disrupted than the last!), there are new starts for many. Early years and childcare settings will be welcoming new arrivals, although it appears those from low-income families have been adversely disadvantaged by both government policy and the pandemic. A recent study by the Sutton Trust ( and the Sylvia Adams Charitable Trust highlights the inequalities created by offering additional funded hours for children whose parents are in work, compared to those from low incomes. This is widening the attainment gap between the poorest children and their peers before they even start school. STORE CUPBOARD Felt fabric Scissors Glue White socks Buttons Rice Elastic bands Ribbon 1 Pour some rice into a white sock. Fill up to 8cm of the sock.
