That might sound inadequate if you’re struggling with something major – a health crisis, relationship difficulties, challenges at work – but the good news is that making tiny tweaks can have a profound effect on how we cope. Starting with something small that can be done instantly helps give us back a sense of control. This issue, we’ve got lots of tips to try when the panic is rising. Here are some of my favourites... Making healthy choices at the supermarket is easy if you’re in the fresh produce section, but once you get into the aisles, it can be hard to know what’s the most nourishing option to put in your trolley. To make sense of packaging, here are some helpful tips: The order matters The first ingredients listed tend to be the ones that make up the majority of the product. Seeing sugar high on the list would be expected for a bag of lollies or a cake, but you might be surprised at how often sugar is one of the top three ingredients for items like sauces, breads and dairy products. The fewer ingredients, the better If you think about an apple, what would the ingredients list be? Apple! Any time you pick up a packet…

STEP TO IT Racking up 10,000 steps a day is seen as the holy grail of wellness, though one Harvard University researcher says we may not need nearly that many to reap the benefits. Professor I-Min Lee observed the daily step totals and mortality rates of more than 16,000 elderly American women. The study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, found that at a mere 4400 steps a day, women had significantly lower mortality rates compared to women who were least active. Mortality rates continued to drop as step count rose, but levelled off at around 7500 steps. WISE UP Getting smarter in 11 minutes or less is something we can get behind, and that’s the concept behind the podcast Becoming Wise. Host Krista Tippett sits down with notable names…

Why is it important to promote positive body image, confidence and self-belief? I know from personal experience that when you can start believing in yourself and finally showing true self-love one’s ability to succeed in our goals and dreams goes through the roof. We start living in a true space of self-love, which impacts on our intentions and actions, leading us to what we should be truly doing in this world. What does being healthy mean to you? Listening to my body and my mind, and being able to give it what it needs to live a well-rounded and balanced lifestyle. Plus, drinking lots of water, eating lots of vegetables, being active and getting lots of sleep. How has your idea of health changed over time? As I’ve aged, I’ve learned to be much kinder…
