the perfect 10

In this frenetic world that we live in, we rarely have time to reflect and assess before we move on to the Next Big Thing. But the impending close of this decade has forced me to stop and look back on what I have achieved in the past 10 years. I wanted to commemorate this with an extensive list of the decade’s top 100 moments across fashion, beauty, pop culture, social media and technology. Some things were a given, such as the Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle phenom that forever changed the public perception of the British monarchy and spawned a whole industry dedicated to their looks and kids. Crazy Rich Asians thrust our city into the global spotlight, showcasing why we are one of the most expensive cities in the…

wish list

The countdown to a new decade has officially begun, and we can think of no better way to complement the year-end festivities than with the best of fashion’s theatrics: Haute couture—a season feting craft, creativity and the very best fashion. There’s always something ethereal and futuristic about Iris van Herpen’s creations, with her haute couture fall/winter 2019 collection (14) calling to mind Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water—where a mysterious amphibious creature and a mortal fall in love against all odds. Recreate the enchanted vibe with soft yet structured looks by layering a Comme des Garçons Noir Kei Ninomiya jacket (10) over a Dolce&Gabbana corset (4) teamed with a Proenza Schouler pleated skirt (8). To p it off with a bejewelled Audemars Piguet watch (12), an aquamarine ring from…

luxe for less

THE COAT DRESS Typically worn in place of a suit by influential women (think Princess Diana in the ’80s and ’90s, and more recently, Kate Middleton), this regal number makes a comeback this season in rich fabrics. Chanel offered one in sumptuous velvet and tweed in opulent jewel tones. Take a cue from the royals and wear yours as a dress, paired with classic heels for formal events. Or give things a modern spin by throwing it over a cropped turtleneck top and high-waisted pants, finished with a topknot for that touch of nonchalance.…

bag to the future

Ring, ring, your bag’s calling! Yes, you heard right. Your Speedy just WhatsApped you. Witness the new player in town that ups the tech game: Louis Vuitton’s Canvas of the Future, featuring built-in flexible display screens by Shenzhen-based bendable screen manufacturer Royole. Showcased on iconic styles such as the Speedy and Duffle at the Maison’s cruise 2020 runway show in New York, the futuristic creation lets you surf the Net, answer a text and even take a FaceTime call with a simple tap of the screen—putting a whole new spin on a bag of tricks. The Canvas of the Future Speedy bag is available at Louis Vuitton (Tel: 6788 3888).…

all the buzz in fashion

1 THE ARTIST IS PRESENT Artistic collaborations have proven to be a key tenet of Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Dior tenure. This season, she enlisted artist Penny Slinger, who creates evocative, haunting works in black and white, often tackling the subject of feminism through a surrealist lens. For Dior, she wrapped up the heart of the House—30 Avenue Montaigne, where Monsieur Dior himself (and every artistic director of the House ever since) worked alongside the ateliers—in a dark scenography that riffed on the alchemy of fire, air, water and earth. Into the dreamlike space came models draped in light, flowing dresses. The fluid pieces evoked the tunics of ancient Greece—garments that only fully came to life on the body. That spirit mirrored the essence of haute couture, which is all about the…
