When I was a child, we lived with my father’s countless DIY projects. There was not much that he would not turn his hand to; he even built a handsome two-storey building with a garage and an office for himself, and added a clock tower and weathervane to the stables. Now, I live with my husband’s projects – the latest is a floating shelf, which runs above the doors to our garden and is used to display pottery. Adding to its boast of having more sunshine hours than any other Scottish city, on Saturday September 15, Dundee will open the doors of the first V&A outside the mothership in London. You might well ask: ‘Why Dundee?’ Unbeknown to many, Dundee has long been a hotbed of innovation. It was the centre of the jute textile industry in the nineteenth century.
