The winter chill has started to bite in earnest here in the Cape and I’m typing this with fairly stiff fingers. Old houses are full of charm, which I can never resist, but believe me – the thick walls keep out every little bit of sunshine and warmth. To create a cosy haven in here I definitely have to go and buy firewood. But I do it quite happily, because our long article about the home as a sanctuary on page 34 speaks to the very fibre of my being. I have always been a person who has to feel content in my environment to be able to put my best foot forward in the world outside.
