We learn them as children and study them at school and yet as adults, poems often get forgotten. For author Georgina Rodgers, coming back to our rhythmic roots is the key to a whole host of benefits. “The joy of a poem is how, as readers, we can place ourselves along the poem’s path, reading our experiences, struggles or triumphs in its narrative,” she writes in her compilation of poems, A Year of Reading Aloud (Yellow Kite, £14.99). sea saviour

We usually associate seaweed with a visit to the beach, or as a tasty, salty ingredient in asian cooking, but recent studies suggest that this sea green is doing more than providing structural support to our sushi. “Seaweed is this incredible technology of Mother Nature,” says restorative ocean farmer Bren Smith, who cultivates kelp, a type of seaweed, on his vertical farm in the Atlantic Ocean. Bren describes kelp as a ‘zero-input food’, as it doesn’t need feeding or fertilising. It's list of benefits is impressive. This sea veggie filters the water where it grows, capturing as much as five times more carbon than land-based plants, as well as acting as an artificial reef and offering storm protection.
