Stay in your lane.” I don’t care for this term: More often than not, it receives a four-letter response. This comment turns up every now and again on InStyle’s Instagram feed. It seems to imply that a “women’s magazine” should stick to “women’s things,” which, according to this mindset, appear to be celebrities, fashion, and…celebrities in fashion. When InStyle highlights any of the myriad social issues facing this country or celebrates the women who speak up for themselves and for others, these trusty, rusty words will appear.
