come for tea Every time we begin working on our annual British issue of TeaTime, I learn more about the United Kingdom’s tea history and penchant for interesting and beautiful tea things, and I hope that you will, too. Our London-based contributing editor, Jane Pettigrew, who also happens to be an award-winning author, educator, and tea historian, acquaints us with the ties five cities (Bath, Glasgow, Harrogate, Liverpool, and Manchester) have with tea in her piece “Urban Tea Tales,” which begins on page 60. English teawares are things of beauty, and many of the photographs in these pages exemplify that—from the lovely Johnson Brothers example in Treasured Teapot (page 20) to the table settings of the three menus as well as the Gluten-free Scone (page 57). Children will be enamored with the…

Love for the 100th Issue “The 100th issue of TeaTime magazine is a beauty! I am pleased to know that you’ll keep the hundred-page standard. So many things to see and read, and the Aladdin serving set is dreamy!” GWENN HENDERSON EYER via Facebook “Yesterday I received my March/April issue. My favorite so far! The photos are impressive. As I live only an hour away from Richmond, Virginia, it was exciting to see how many choices of tearooms are available nearby. My daughter will be turning 13 in April, and I think I have found the perfect experience to celebrate with her. Yes, she, too, is a tea lover!” RENDA DOYLE ZIEGLER via Facebook “I was delighted to see my wedding china pattern, Wedgwood Bianca, featured on your cover and in the pages of the March/April 2021…

elevenses defined

I love British author A. A. Milne’s stories because Winnie the Pooh always “liked a little something at eleven o’clock in the morning.” The author writes that the clock on the wall of The House at Pooh Corner had conveniently “stopped at five minutes to eleven some weeks ago.” The frozen timepiece was Pooh’s perpetual prompt to stop for elevenses, his favorite meal of the day, usually consisting of honey on bread with condensed milk. “When late morning rolls around, and you’re feeling a bit out of sorts, don’t worry; you’re probably just a little eleven o’clockish,” says Pooh. The English have worked hard keeping that “eleven o’clockish” feeling at bay for centuries by adding a light meal between breakfast and luncheon.
