Coco Chanel had her Verdura cuffs; Bunny Mellon, her Schlumberger bangles; Daisy Fellowes, her Tutti Frutti Cartier. When a woman of style and substance blazed a fashionable trail through the salons, red carpets, and famous fetes of the 20th century, she often did so wearing a complement of jewels, leaving a glittering legacy in her wake. The styles associated with these boldface names continue to be influential today. Updated, gem-studded versions of the Maltese Cross cuff Duke Fulco di Verdura designed for Chanel in the 1930s are still sold by the house. Like the other evolutions shown here, they’re tailor-made for an entirely new generation of trailblazers. NAP ON THE PORCH Warmer weather transforms a screened or glassed-in porch into an extension of the living room. Furnish it with plush seating, plump pillows, and plenty of chintz and wicker, and while away an afternoon or two. LIVE LIKE AN AGNELLI Buccellati reissues the eminently stylish sterling-and-bamboo service it created in the 1960s for the tastemaking family’s yacht. KICK OFF YOUR SHOES Painted wooden floors are a deliciously understated grace note—see the whole slew of Swedish palaces, as well as the handiwork of the Bunnys Mellon and Williams—and they’re positively luscious under bare feet. These printed wooden tiles mean you don’t have to commission an artisan to install them at your weekend escape. POUR ON THE CHARM Painted furniture exudes a happy, sweet sensibility that’s ideal for this time of year. THE GARDEN IS YOUR FLOWER…
