‘GO anywhere… Do anything’. It’s a phrase that’s associated with the Series I 80-inch dating back to their adverting campaigns in 1948 and has been synonymous with Land Rover ever since. Promoting the merits of its all-terrain versatility has recently come under scrutiny, however, after environmental campaigners accused the UK advertising watchdog of bias for overturning a draft ruling that banned adverts for a mud-splattered Land Rover Defender after previously stating it encouraged ‘socially irresponsible’ driving that could ‘cause damage to vulnerable habitats’. The national newspaper ad featured a Defender in a forest with the headline ‘Life is so much better without restrictions’ accompanied by the text ‘capacity to go almost anywhere and do anything. APPOINTED Executive Director of Product Engineering in 2015, and responsible for the reincarnation of the pioneering new Land Rover Defender and the latest Range Rover, Nick Rogers has announced he will leave JLR after almost four decades. Rogers joined Land Rover as a technician apprentice in 1984, and over the course of his career led body structure and engineering teams for the Discovery 2, Discovery 3 and Range Rover Sport. I know a little bit about them, but from what I’ve read I think it might be a fairly rare car that deserves a full restoration. So I would be looking to sell it. I’m struggling to put a value on it and finding the best place to sell it. It’s 1971 Range Rover Classic (HWE 999J) with VIN number 35500562A. I obviously know it’s a Tuscan Blue with Palomino interior which is mostly all still there. It’s been converted to a 200Tdi at some point and does run and drive.
