A new weight-loss injection (which studies in America show can cut body weight by up to 20 per cent), has been approved in the UK. Semaglutide, sold under the brand name Wegovy, is normally used to treat type 2 diabetes. It mimics the hormone that suppresses appetite and slows down the movement of food through the body, making you feel full for longer. In Britain, people with at least one weight-related condition, such as sleep apnoea, or heart disease with a BMI of 35+ can now get the prescription-only self-administered weekly injections. In one study group of 2,000, half were given semaglutide, with the others receiving a placebo. Those on the drug lost an average of 2st 4lbs, while it was only 4lbs in the placebo group. But in the…
