WORKWEAR, FOR MANY , used to mean a variation on the sharp pencil skirt and silk blouse formula (very Shiv Roy). Over the past few years, however, it’s lost its way. As offices closed, then opened, then closed again, a muddled rotation emerged – a bit of waist-up dressing, a lot of loungewear – so even when hybrid working started last autumn, workwear never quite regained its smart-casual former stride. (Some, of course, didn’t have the luxury of working from home, but may have adapted their wardrobes nonetheless.) Now, as we look towards the chink of light at the end of the Omicron tunnel, the way we dress for work has changed. So, as workplaces reopen (in England at least), the question is: what should we wear?
