Fabric. We love it, don’t we? The colors, the textures, the inspiration it offers—it is all just delicious. In this issue of Quiltmaker, I wanted you to not only be inspired by the quilts and patterns within, but also think about the fabric used to make the quilts. Behind the Bolt is a special feature in this issue that focuses on four fabric designers. Mandala Betsy Vinegrad’s Modern Mandala in the May/June ’19 issue of Quiltmaker was one that called to my heart. I made her paper-pieced quilt a bit bigger than her original by enlarging the paper pieces by 200% with mine finishing at 55” x 55”. It certainly does have the impact the article alluded to. After meeting Tone Finnager, I can say that Tone is just what you would imagine when you see her sweet, whimsical designs. She describes her brand, Tilda as a “cozy, sometimes comical and feminine world, with bright fabric designs and naïve figures as the main theme”. With sweet florals, textured linens, adorable patterns, books, and housewares, Tone has built her business from a book and four products to a successful and recognized international brand. A little about Tone I was born in 1973, and grew up in Oslo near Vigelandsparken (Vigeland Sculpture Park). I studied art, graphic design, and business, and I worked as an interior decorator and illustrator.
