“'Long live our rekindled romance with books” The great slowdown of 2020 had many unintended consequences – a boom in book sales turned out to be one of them. Despite a decline in sales for the past few years, as lockdown rolled on we collectively turned to the comfort of literature as our existences simplified. Whether nostalgia, an abundance of time, a need to escape into another world while we were stuck in one place, or just our need for an entertaining break from our screen-fuelled working days, our love of books was rekindled and across the UK we bought a mere 202 million of them.
