SO LONG, FAREWELL
After 21 years as editor you’d think I’d be able to explain what makes Interiors unique in the world of magazine publishing. Only I’m not sure I can. There’s its extraordinary variety of material of course, plus presentation, production and a markedly individual point of view. But flicking through back issues before writing this goodbye letter, I find there’s something more unfathomable, a magic borne of the staff and contributors’ shared desire to show only the best and to imbue stories with gravitas while never allowing WoI to take itself too seriously. Since its launch in November 1981, the magazine’s commitment to record for posterity décor of every stripe has been earnest, but so too has its desire to delight, inspire and entertain.
