Sy Montgomery, author of the beloved Orion article “Deep Intellect,” wrote in to say that giant Pacific octopus Octavia, who came to the New England Aquarium after Athena’s sudden death, laid eggs in October. That’s usually the end of an octopus’s life cycle, so aquarium staff and volunteers are grooming another octopus, Kali, to replace Octavia in the exhibit.
