Mom: Mindi Daughter: Marley Dog: Max “Marley’s dad and I have been separated for 10 years and divorced for 5. Once we got through the initial transition as a couple, we were able to come together and raise our daughter as a team. I’m not going to lie—it’s not always smooth. But our love for Marley trumps whatever BS we bring to the table.”—MINDI“My favorite thing to do with my mom is watch Grey’s Anatomy. We talk about our favorite seasons, episodes, characters and why we like them.”—MARLEY“My mom is very strong and independent and handles a lot of things at once. She works hard; I guess she’s like a supermom. Oh, and I like the way she smells.”—MARLEY“Marley is extremely empathetic and loving. She always has a positive spin on…

the fix: summer sweat

Wet Pits Most of the time, you can get away with wearing just a deodorant, which keeps the bacteria found in sweat from smelling (hell no, B.O.!). On super-hot days, though, you might want an antiperspirant-deodorant duo, which keeps you from sweating in the first place. Look for one with aluminum salts, the ingredient that blocks sweat glands, says NYC derm Debra Jaliman, MD, an assistant professor at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. (We like Dove Dry Serum Antiperspirant, $12.) If your level of sweat can swamp OTC options, talk to a derm, who may prescribe a clinical-strength product with shvitz-zapping glycopyrronium (like the new Qbrexza wipes). Or consider Botox or Dysport: Both block sweat glands, so there’s less odor and wetness, and last about three months, says Lara…

task master: washing the car

Sure, running the car through the local Super Suds will get you the quick wash you need before your mother-in-law pointedly side-eyes the grunge. But let’s be real: One upside of having teens is that you can get them to wash your car in exchange for whatever they’ve been nagging you about. Here’s how to make sure they do it right. Top of Mind 1 Keep the car out of the sun. A hot exterior dries too quickly, making streaks more likely, says Mike Stoops, of Meguiar’s, a car care company in CA. 2 Minimize friction. Think of the car’s surface like your skin: Totally stripping it of wax (or your face of its natural oils!) will weaken the exterior. 3 Wash the roof and hood first, then work your way down. The grit…

tech goes to the dogs—and cats

Illumiseen LED Dog Collar and Leash These light-up collars and leashes (which, yes, when aglow look like something your kid might wear to a rave) make it easier to keep an eye on Sparky during night walks and help drivers do the same. Select from six colors, which offer three modes—slow flash, fast or steady. The LED-powered items run for five hours on a single charge. Illumiseen.com, collar, $19; leash, $25 Sure Petcare Microchip Pet Door Connect If you’ve had your animals chipped, this pet door will let them in while acting as a high-tech bouncer for the local raccoon or neighborhood stray. (It can also stop your indoor-only pets from busting loose.) The Connect’s 7 x 7-inch opening is large enough for small dogs and can be installed in doors, walls or…
