Behind the Scenes With Elle For November cover girl Elle Fanning, a trip to an empty mall is pure fashion heaven. In our exclusive video, the red-carpet star gets decked out in couture gowns to hit the shops and hang out. YOUR MONTHLY HOROSCOPE Mercury will be in retrograde from Halloween till November 20, which means you’ll have to choose your words carefully during this time (that goes double for combative fire signs). See what the stars have in store for you on the 1st of each month. WINTER-PROOF YOUR SKIN Layering moisture-rich formulas over glow-boosting serums is key in cold, dry weather. Meet your go-tos for the season. hello!

What does “best dressed” mean these days, anyway? We have a lot more on our minds than a good outfit. Of course, what we’re wearing can make us feel better and armed for the world. (Few things are more inherently optimistic than a new pair of shoes.) What I wanted to focus on for this issue is women who transcend clothes, who bring something extra to the table: joy, brains, vision. Let’s start with the joy. I’d usually run into Elle Fanning at events—both of us gussied up, the cameras on her every move. But what she has always radiated, and the reason she’s on this cover, is not only an innate style but also an unselfconscious enthusiasm that makes her a rare bird. Only Elle could turn up on the…

Happy 25th Anniversary @instylemagazine!!! I still remember when my dad brought that 1st issue home from work back in 1994. […] I have archived in my home office the first 15 years of issues and a bunch of special issues. I was thrilled to get the anniversary issue in the mail yesterday with @juliannemoore on the cover, and she looks fantastic rocking the 90s-style looks! Congrats, InStyle! Cheers to another 25! —@CLEVELANDLEAH COVER LETTERS I have to say this with glee - In Style is the FIRST mag I have seen this year that is covering these incredible women with class and grace. […] Yay!! —@ARLAMIA, via Twitter I truly enjoyed “The Cover Stars” [p. 234] in your September issue. As a gal who has grown up with these women, I loved reading each of…

MONICA AWE-ETUK, Atlanta @awedbymoni INSPIRED BY The Look: “Satin Finish” (August 2019) HOW SHE MAKES IT HER OWN Awe-Etuk is “stepping up and stepping out in satin!” A single sleeve and an asymmetrical hemline take this simple style to the next level. Elle Fanning knows good fashion, and she’s got the red-carpet acumen to prove it. As a judge at the Cannes Film Festival this past May, she turned up in one killer look after another. So, obviously, we wanted her to be on the cover of our Best Dressed issue. The shoot took place in a Los Angeles shopping mall over eight couture-packed hours, with Fanning modeling gowns from Valentino Haute Couture, Fendi Couture, and Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda (an archival frock so special, it was hand-delivered from Milan and came with its own security guard). After making a pit stop at the food court to eat ramen in a voluminous Armani Privé confection (because, as Fanning says, “you can never be Best Dressed on an empty stomach”), she stepped…
