PASTA MASTER I wanted to share my first experience of making fresh pasta. I was inspired by the pici recipe in issue 153 from Tim Siadatan’s Trullo book. It took me a while, but I was thrilled when even my fussy family said how good it tasted. MEASURE FOR MEASURE Italia! magazine is our very favourite for my daughter and me. She works in Manhattan and there she goes out of her way to find and purchase the magazine every month. She has a wonderful collection of them now that we love. We have travelled around the boot of Italy and Sicily many times: 15 for me and more for my daughter, so we are really converted to everything in your magazine. I am writing to ask if you would consider including US…

The little cafés and restaurants were full of activity just as the sun was setting on another beautiful day in Rome.” WIN! VILLA SANDI IL FRESCO PROSECCO & BOTTLE STOPPER* Peter Colligan, Waterlooville “During our stay in Sulmona, Abruzzo, we were amazed at the huge range of sugared almonds (confetti) available. I particularly liked the simplicity of these in the colours (tricolori) of the national flag.” Steve Craig, Centralia, Washington, USA “Taken while visiting the lovely island of Torcello, just north of Venice, and accessible by boat from Venice. A good respite from the crowds of Venice.” HOW TO SEND YOUR PHOTOS Please email high-resolution (300dpi) jpegs of your photos of Italy…

HOLY BONES An excavator made a surprising discovery during restoration work on a church in Rome this summer. Upon lifting a marble slab near the medieval altar at the Church of Santa Maria in the Trastevere district, he came across two Roman-era pots – and inscriptions on the lids suggested that they contained the remains of St Peter, regarded as the first Pope, along with those of Popes Cornelius, Callixtus and Felix. It had long been suspected that the bones might be in the church – there are records in the buildings – but until the workman’s discovery they had never been found. They have now been sent to the Vatican for analysis to determine if they are indeed the remains of St Peter. The church deacon, Massimiliano Floridi, told the…

HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS IN CONCERT 1-3 December Rome What better way to kick off the festive period than with a Harry Potter movie? But this event at Rome’s Auditorium della Conciliazione won’t be just any old screening: no, the second story in JK Rowling’s all-conquering wizard series will be dramatically enhanced by a live orchestra, who’ll tromp their way through John Williams’ epic soundtrack as the spells and sorcery of the film are projected onto a huge 40-foot screen in front of you. It’ll seem like magic… www.viagogo.co.uk MARCHÉ VERT NOËL CHRISTMAS MARKET 25 November – 7 January Aosta We didn’t have room to list all the Christmas markets that’ll be taking place across the country this month, so we’ve selected one of our favourites.
