escape into a world of minis

The real world seems a rather chilly and strange place at the moment so put the kettle on and settle down for a bit of escapism into the world of Minis. Inside you can delight at Peter Hicks' beautiful Radford Mini. For some, restoring such a rare and complex Mini would seem quite daunting but Peter has plenty of Mini know-how and he knew the right experts who could help him out here and there. Nick Curzon also enlisted help with his fab Mini project in the form of his friend Ben Gerrard. Another Mini featured in this issue was built as a project by father and son Andrew and Terry Cheverall. I guess all these Mini builds show that projects can often be more fun when friends and family are…

mini happy returns as megan is reunited with m&s mini

Bill Bell, co-founder of the 1959 Mini Register, used to own the pink Mini with painted flowers that was featured in a 2006 Marks & Spencer advert which included famous Mini fan, Twiggy. “When we bought it my eldest daughter, Megan, was nine years old and she fell in love with it instantly. She even starred in a 50th anniversary film with the car at Gaydon and, in 2012 when she was aged 12, she was included in a MiniWorld feature on the car,” explains Bill who went on to sell the Mini. It is now owned by Chris and Rebecca who run the beautiful Galtres Lodge Hotel in York (www.galtreslodge.uk). Megan recently stayed at the hotel with her boyfriend Dom to celebrate her 21st birthday. “While there, Megan was reunited…

mini matrimony

Sarah and Steve Waterhouse were married at Bingley St Ives Golf Club, in West Yorkshire, on Thursday 17 September. Andy ‘Ace’ Harrison of Acespeed arranged for three Minis to take part in their special day. “We took a Cooper Works, Italian Job LE and an MPi Cooper to the venue. They were over the moon with the cars which looked lovely in the sun. A stray golf ball narrowly missed the bride’s car! We heard ‘fore’ and ducked which added a little humour,” said Andy. The bride requested that Andy drove her while wearing his racing suit and Liam Gallagher lookalike Chris McKibb chauffered the bride in his Cooper. Acespeed storeman Keith Moralee drove the other Mini.…

mini spares midlands closed

Mini Spares Midlands, set up between Mini Spares of Potters Bar and David Manners Group 24 years ago, closed on 31 October by mutual agreement. “David Manners group is concentrating on its core business of Jaguar and MG, etc, and Mini is coming back in-house to Potters Bar or York," explained Justin Jeffery of Mini Spares. "Over the years we have created an online presence that meant that Midlands, whom had no online store of their own, were only dealing with trade customers and counter customers. They decided not to open the [Mini] counter/shop so its was decided to close the operation.” Returns will be accepted at DMG until 30 November.…

Engineer Nick Curzon, comes from sound, Mini-loving stock. “I’ve been into Minis since I was about eight years old and had my own since I was 18. They’ve always been part of my life. My nan had them when I was little and I can remember her having one stolen, and it coming back modified, but she sold it as she’d already replaced it.” Typical of many a Mini enthusiast who has grown up with these cars, the times when they were readily available and affordable made a lasting impression. When you are familiar with what can go wrong with a Mini and how to repair them, owning, fixing and running them become second nature. Nick has usually owned a Mini or two over the last 15 years and his current…
