new year’s resolutions

As I write this, it’s snowing. It’s cold. And it’s dark. The glorious days of riding motorcycles seem light years away. Yet, I can’t stop thinking about riding. And bikes. And all the places where I could ride bikes… sigh! The last time I rode a motorcycle further than the local shop was over a month ago. Of course, the snow plays its part, but this time it hasn’t been just the lousy weather that’s kept my bike in the garage. Normally I quite happily ride all-year round as long as the roads aren’t icy, but now we are in another lockdown, and I want to minimise the riding as much as the job allows. The last thing I want to do is to get into trouble on a bike and…

motorcycle sport & leisure’s contributors...

Stuart Barker Stuart Barker has been a freelance motorcycle journalist for 17 years, writing for most of the major bike titles. He has written biographies of Barry Sheene, Steve Hislop, Niall Mackenzie and Evel Knievel, and is currently editor of the official Isle of Man TT programme. Dave Manning As a self-confessed motorcycle anorak, Dave’s particular two-wheeled penchant is for customised bikes – in each and every modified form they come. He’s a strong believer that every single bike ever made is worth trying, whether they have been customised or not. Maynard Hershon Maynard lives in Denver, Colorado, US, and rides a lovable Moto Guzzi V7. He began riding in 1962 and found that on or off the bike he was happiest thinking about motorcycling. He’s always led a life that’s focused on riding, rather…

royal enfield’s mighty meteor 350

Royal Enfield has launched its all-new Meteor 350, which inherits its name from a Royal Enfield motorcycle of the 1950s. Launched at the end of 1952, the original Meteor was a touring motorcycle, whereas the new Meteor 350 is what RE calls an easy-cruiser. Royal Enfield promises that the new model offers great comfort with excellent ergonomics, and enjoyable everyday cruising. The Meteor also comes with Royal Enfield Tripper, a turn-by-turn navigation pod that connects to the Royal Enfield App with native Google Maps integration. With a 349cc air/oil-cooled single-cylinder engine, the Meteor 350 generates 20.2bhp and 27Nm of torque at 4000rpm. A balancer shaft helps with smoothness, without losing that Royal Enfield ‘thump’. Suspension is taken care of by 41mm forks with 130mm of travel, and adjustable twin shock absorbers at the rear. The…

support air ambulance uk with the moto guzzi club

Moto Guzzi Club GB has organised a fundraiser for Air Ambulance UK – celebrating 100 years of the Italian brand whilst raising money for the vital, lifesaving service. To help raise some money to allow Air Ambulance crews to continue their vital work during these trying times, Moto Guzzi Club GB has organised a virtual motorcycle tour from Manchester to Mandello del Lario in Italy. With your help it’s sending Victor Velocity and his Moto Guzzi V85TT to the factory, in time for the Moto Guzzi 100th anniversary celebrations in September 2021. For every £2 you donate Victor will travel one mile, so in order to reach the factory he will need to travel a total of 1000 miles – that means the goal is to raise £2000 for Air Ambulance UK,…

Honda has also upped the luggage, adding 11 litres to the topbox, taking the overall luggage to 121 litres. For both the Gold Wing and the Gold Wing Tour, a new and improved stereo system has been added, which Honda claim ‘achieves superb sound quality with vivid presence’. The standard Gold Wing benefits from just the improved audio and a brand new colour described as ‘Pearl Deep Mud Grey’. The Tour…
