EVERYONE HAS A favourite beach. Mine is Bamburgh on the Northumberland coast, with its pristine sands, breathtaking views and iconic castle silhouette. There’s something truly mesmerising about the coast that perhaps stems from us never been more than 70 miles from the sea here in Blighty (thanks Wikipedia), a geographic fortitude that us artistic types have been taking advantage of for centuries. This month’s masterclass dives into the timeless subject of seascapes and takes you on a journey from light and composition to concept and style. Dip your toes on page 34. When you’ve dried off, take a look at this month’s exclusive DVD/download – it’s the first fruits of our new partnership with Adobe. We hope you enjoy it!…

Canon 5DS | 180mm | 1/125sec | f/20 | ISO 250 Tim Flach is an animal photographer who has published five books and is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society.
