White – that fabulous foundation palette, veritable creative launching pad, backdrop for splashes of colour by way of well-placed accessories. White can, it must be said, actually grow tiresome in the long run. How many white spaces have we featured in the last year? Several. Perhaps too many. It is, however, an indispensable colour: reliable, a chic go-to with black (just check out the bathroom on page 26), not to mention its timelessness, and what an ideal neutral it is alongside wood (see the homes on pages 40…

Take a Seat for Charity Iconic French furniture and design company Roche Bobois challenged renowned Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos to reinterpret six of their pieces in the artist’s own bold and challenging way. The collection, aptly called A Arte de Viver (Portugese for The Art of Living), captures Vasconcelos’ interest in the intersection of handcrafted and industrial. Her masterful use of colour and form give new life to the recognizable pieces from Roche Bobois. Here, the Ava chair wears a kaleidoscope-coloured crocheted coat, resulting in a piece that marries a folk needlework tradition practiced by women in many cultures with “high design.” The exhibition of the collection toured Europe and finally hopped the Atlantic to Miami in late 2019. Each piece will eventually be auctioned with all proceeds going to Vasconcelos’…
