Anorak Magazine

Volume 53 / Ice cream

Anorak is the Happy Mags for Kids. Aimed at children aged 6+, it contains beautifully illustrated stories, activities and themes, all designed to spark imagination and foster creativity. Anorak explores themes based on the National Curriculum such as Art, Our World, Under the Sea and Learning, or more philosophical themes such as Kindness or Friendships and fun themes such as Cakes! Unlike magazines of today, Anorak is not a throw away title. Just like much loved children’s magazines and annuals of the past it is designed to be collected, kept, handed down and revisited. “Anorak is what would happen if Monty Python, Ralph Steadman and René Magritte decided to make a magazine for children. It's anarchic, fun, laugh-out-loud strange and readable for kids of all ages.” —Huffington Post.

collecting is fun!

WHAT ARE BADGES? Badges are little round metal objects with a pin at the back that lets you attach them to clothes. The front usually carries images of cool characters, pictures of famous bands or nice messages. WHAT DO THEY LOOK LIKE? The most common ones are round, about the size of your thumb, but they can be as big as your hand too. Some fancy ones are cut into specific shapes or made of precious metals. WHY DO WE LOVE THEM? We love them because they’re dinky and there are loads to collect. We also like how adding a badge to a boring-looking cap or jacket can instantly turn it into a cool one. WHERE CAN WE FIND THEM? You can find old ones in charity shops or at carboot sales. ARE THEY EXPENSIVE TO BUY? Some super old…

reading is fun

The Legend of Podkin One-Ear by Kieran Larkwood (Faber) This is one of the best books I have ever read. It’s about a young rabbit called Podkin who lives in a warren. Everything changes when Podkin’s house is attacked by THE GORM, causing him and his family to run as far away as they can. They have many adventures along the way and Podkin finds himself fighting for his LIFE. My favourite part was when they hired Crom to rescue them from Shape and Quilt. My favourite character is Crom, I think it’s amazing the way he is such a great fighter when he is blind. If you read this book you can find out about all the adventures they have. It is part of a great series. If you are looking…
