reasons to be cheerful

We will all need something to smile about in the coming weeks and I couldn’t be happier that BGT is back with us on Saturday night! We have a chat with Alesha on page 10 and our columnist Tony even managed to get his brother, Simon, on the phone from LA. Simon’s given us the behind-the-scenes secrets for this series (page 52), and he’s even shared an exclusive pic of him cooking during lockdown. No swanky restaurant for Mr Cowell this weekend and, if Sunday lunch is up to him, it would appear chips are on the menu for Eric and Lauren. As well as great TV ideas, we’re back with ways to stay busy over the Bank Holiday, the latest celebrity stories and – as ever – Carol McGiffin’s thoughts…

start your week with a smile

1 BAA BAA BLINDERS! Meet Tommy and Arthur – the latest arrivals at Derbyshire’s Golden Valley Farm – and a sure sign that Easter is round the corner. If these baby brothers weren’t cute enough already, we love the addition of a tiny flat cap which sends the aww factor into the stratosphere! We’re guessing that someone at the farm is a massive fan of the BBC’s Peaky Blinders drama, as these ultra-cute siblings are named after the series’ main characters, Tommy and Arthur Shelby. 2 HM wowed the crowd At 93 years of age, she remains the ultimate style icon and we can always rely on Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth to brighten up our dark days. She may be safe inside Windsor Castle this year, but here we take a look back…

kate & wills at easter

What a difference a year makes. Last year, Kate W and William headed to Windsor Castle’s chapel on Easter Sunday – marking the holiday and helping to celebrate the Queen’s 93rd birthday. Kate, radiant in duck egg blue, curtsied to her grandmother-in-law, before the family group – which included Prince Harry, Princess Anne, and Zara and Mike Tindall – headed off to celebrate the holiday. This year, the Bank Holiday weekend will be very different. Kate and William are in isolation at Anmer Hall, their country home next to the Sandringham Estate, in Norfolk. If you must self-isolate, though, there are certainly worst places than a 10-bedroom mansion, with extensive grounds and Kate has spoken often about her passion for getting children out into the outdoors. George, six, Charlotte, four, and nearly two-year-old Louis –…

kirstie loses it

Location, Location, Location star Kirstie Allsopp has been ruffling feathers. The craft queen is no stranger to controversy, but this time it was sparked by her decision to leave London for Devon. As her partner Ben Anderson tested positive for Coronavirus, Kirstie – who feared she also ‘had symptoms’ – drove to her country residence to self-isolate with Ben and their children (Bay, 13, Oscar, 11, plus step-children Lydia, 19, and Hal, 17). But her decision caused a huge storm on social media. ‘Shameful taking unessential travel with people who have tested positive for the virus…’ said one. ‘Sick of overpaid, over-privileged celebs and their holiday homes,’ ranted another. ‘Only a selfish moron would take a family from the capital to the countryside knowing one member of the party was infected.’ Kirstie was horrified. ‘The last…

‘it’s like carry on bgt!’

It’s one of the last shows standing, due to the Coronavirus (indeed, live shows will be postponed until later this year), but boy, are we glad to be welcoming back hit ITV show Britain’s Got Talent! It couldn’t be a better time for some weird, wonderful, heart-warming acts – as well as the usual banter between long-standing judges, BGT creator Simon Cowell, David Walliams, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon. Here, mum-of-two Alesha, 41, reveals what we can expect from this ‘old-school’ series. Hi Alesha, what’s the vibe like on the show this year? Well, we have quite a long time when we don’t see each other, so when we get back together there’s always a good energy. Good vibes. One of the last days in Manchester was a particularly good day. We…

TOP TIP! This supermarket find is smart and stylish. Team with flats now and heels later on in the season. TOP TIP! A sheer top underneath looks glam, but is comfortable enough to lounge around in. TOP TIP! Layer a tight fitting long-sleeved T-shirt underneath to give you extra warmth at home. STYLIST DANIELLE ELMES-HUGHES PHOTOGRAPHY: NICKY JOHNSTON HAIR AND MAKE-UP: CARL STANLEY…
