pre-order – if you like what you see!

I hate banging on about how you can guarantee your monthly slice of Classic Motorcycle Mechanics, but I’m duty-bound, I’m afraid! Thing is, as I’ve said before, in these trying times we need you to support us – and we need to support you. Subscriptions help when it comes to fewer people popping into their local newsagents’ (remember them? I loved seeing the vast array of comics and magazines as a kid) but we’ve also come up with another – the pre-order system. If you like what you see, simply scan that weird box thing on the ‘Next Month’ page or go tohttps://www.classicmagazines.co.uk/issue/pre-order. Don’t tell my boss here at CMM, but I’ve been doing this with my ‘other’ hobby magazines. It means I can relax and know that I’m going to get…

thank you, fausto!

Double world champion and team owner Fausto Gresini passed away in February aged 60. As a rider, the diminutive Italian was well suited to the smaller classes. He began his race career in 1978 in the 50cc class aboard a Minarelli, but soon made it to the Grand Prix paddock, starting his first season in 1983. That year on a Garelli he would take a best result of second place at the Swedish Grand Prix. For 1984 the move to an MBA machine saw him take his first win (Sweden again) and finish third in the title race overall. Better was to come in 1985 when, returning to Garelli, he took the 125cc World Championship with a consistent run of form, including three wins. In 1986 he’d finish second overall behind…

the latest riding kit, top tools, tyres, retro clothing and more!

HJC F70 CARBON The new carbon-fibre F70 has a unique design including an aggressive looking breath guard and maximised ventilation from two top vents and five rear exhaust vents. You’ve also got an internal, anti-fog coated drop-down sun shield, and is also Bluetooth compatible with Smart HJC. We also like the breath deflector, chin curtain and double D-ring. The interior is also moisture wicking and is quick-drying! The F70 Carbon is available in sizes XS-2XL. Clearly any colour you like – as long as it’s carbon coloured! www.oxfordproducts.com HOLY FREEDOM BULLIT GLOVES Yes, ‘Holy Freedom’ sounds like something either from the 1960s Batman show or something an evangelical nut from the USA would say – but they are actually a quality pair of gloves! These ‘shortie’ café-racer style gloves feature quality cowhide leather,…

BEELINE MOTO SAT-NAV If you’re into old bikes, chances are that you’re of an age when navigating a route is achieved the traditional way – at the occasional stop you pull out a lovely map and plot the next move. Youngsters will now be yelling at their copy of CMM and wondering why this old fool hasn’t ever heard of sat-nav. Well I have, and there are times when it’s lovely to hear the dulcet tones of a lady giving instructions through an earpiece connected to your smartphone. What could be better? Most times I use well-worn routes in the south-east when that’s not really necessary, and it’s occasionally fun to explore off the beaten track. But if you’ve got an address to find then a sat-nav is vital, even if the palaver…

showtime!

With a tentative map out of lockdown scribbled down in Boris’ spidery scrawl on the back of a napkin, it means we can (hopefully) look forward to a series of two-wheeled events in 2021 and it’s shaping up to be a busy, but fun summer! First up will be the Normous Newark Autojumble on June 6th (yes, at Newark Showground) followed by The Stratford Autojumble on June 13th. Then, on June 19th will be the Kempton Park Autojumble. Our popular International Classic MotorCycle Show, usually held in April, is still looking to be over the weekend of July 3rd and 4th at the Stafford County Showground. Meanwhile the Bristol Classic, held at The Royal Bath and West Showground, Shepton Mallet, will be held over the weekend of July 24th and 25th. If…
