The power ramps up quickly, which is great for pulling away from traffic or punching up a short, steep climb There are two distinct flavours of e-road bike emerging: the lower-assistance, lighter bikes like the Fazua-equipped Focus Paralane2 and the max-power heavier units like Giant’s Yamaha-equipped FastRoad. Joining that party is Trek’s new Domane+. The Domane + is based around the last generation Domane frame design. Built from 500 Series OCLV carbon, encased within is a powerful Bosch Performance Cruise motor with 250w output and an impressive 63nm of torque. It’s backed up with a large capacity 500wh battery that’s mounted within the down-tube. The battery itself can be charged in situ via a port that sits in front of the motor on the BB shell. £2250 LIGHTNESS BUILT IN At the heart of the Atto is a carbon fibre frame built using high-grade Toray fibres. It has seen plenty of development from the original, resulting in a drop of more than 400g from the frame alone. This means a complete bike that tips the scales at 10.4kg with the hefty 11-speed hub gear – or opt for the simple, cheaper single-speed that drops down to around 8kg. SHARP RIDING FOR A FOLDING BIKE Some small-wheeled folders can feel twitchy. The Atto is better than most with its long wheelbase and big 20-inch wheels. The front-end steering response is quicker than a standard bike, but remains stable at speed.
