BRING IT HOME Shining a spotlight on Canada’s first zero-emission beauty refill service, dual-action retinol and a skincare guru’s debut book. OPEN BOOK “I know some brands say you don’t need to cleanse your skin in the morning,” skincare expert and aesthetician Caroline Hirons writes in her debut book, Skincare. “They’re wrong.” That type of matter-of-fact advice—which took the Brit from working part-time at an Aveda counter to being a bona fide skincare authority—is what makes her comprehensive guide so compelling. Using step-by-step instructions and her encyclopedic knowledge, Hirons draws a clear picture of how to best take care of skin, no matter the concern. As for the pièce de résistance? We can’t decide if it’s the droolworthy snapshots of Hirons’ own beauty stash or the handy brand glossary, in which she spills…

natasha rothwell

WHEN I GET ON THE PHONE with writer-actor-comedian Natasha Rothwell, we’re both nearing the end of two weeks of self-isolating because of the coronavirus pandemic. So far, the 39-year-old is managing okay—after all, much of her off-screen work is done in solitude. “I’m definitely not as regimented,” she says. “But it’s nice to be able to maintain some kind of daily routine so the days don’t all bleed together. I don’t think I’m writing my King Lear though.” You never know, I respond. Especially where Rothwell is concerned. Her big break in the industry came in 2015, when she was hired as a writer on Saturday Night Live. That gig helped her capture the attention of an HBO exec, who introduced her to Issa Rae, the creator of Insecure, a…

It’s common wellness wisdom that getting plenty of rest is a must for feeling and looking our best. As we’re drifting in dreamland, our body is busy recouping from the toll of the day—and our skin is no different. Now, with the new NEOSTRATA Overnight Anti-Pollution Treatment, you can make the most of your downtime. The product is one of the latest innovations from NEOSTRATA, the skincare company renowned for numerous ingredient breakthroughs over the past four decades. One of its original claims to fame: pioneering the use of Alpha Hydroxy Acids, including Glycolic Acid, in antiaging peels. With the NEOSTRATA Overnight Anti-Pollution Treatment, the goal is to help skin deal with environmental stress at the perfect time—while we’re sleeping. “This product is unique in that it offers recovery overnight from pollution…

editor’s note

Editor-in-Chief Follow me on Instagram and Twitter @vanessacraft. WE SHOT THIS MONTH’S cover—the second-to-last photo of the day—at the beginning of March on a hotel rooftop in Santa Monica. It was taken during “golden hour,” that magical time just before sunset, known by professional photographers and selfie-takers alike for having the softest, prettiest and most flattering natural light you can get. It was quite the classic “fashion” moment, with a crew of stylists and assistants, a photographer, hair and makeup artists and, of course, our inimitable star, Sandra Oh herself, all entirely focused on one goal: to catch that precious light before it faded. This was an all-hands-on-deck situation. A hotel security guard held back curious bystanders and a large metal gate that kept swinging into the photographer’s sightline; an assistant scrambled to…
