FULL house For the last 80 years, Vipp has excelled at making kitchen accessories and, more recently, modular kitchens. The innovative, family-owned brand also has a clutch of hotels: individual residences (fitted with Vipp products, naturally) that can be rented. The latest project, Chimney House in Copenhagen, a former water-pumping station built in 1902, opened earlier this year and inspired Vipp to design bespoke furniture – including the ‘Chimney’ sofa (below). Have you always wanted to be a designer? From an early age, two things I loved to do was make things and tell stories. And from the moment I started at Design Academy Eindhoven, I felt at home. For me, it was clear I wanted to start my own design studio after finishing my studies – I’ve been running my company Destroyers/Builders since 2014. How would you describe your approach? I emphasise the senses in different ways. My pieces are tactile, but they are also architectural and sculptural. My works find a balance between art and design and high- and low-end materials. Taking its name from an Old English word meaning ‘pleasant on the eye’, Eesome lives up to its promise. The curated second-hand online store, founded by ex-fashion stylist and set designer Hana Bauman-Lyons, specialises in vintage and antique pottery and ceramics. Hana’s hobby for collecting ceramics on her travels soon outgrew her home. Turning her passion into a business was a ‘very slow and organic process’, she says. ‘I’ve always understood the value of buying second-hand and the power of a circular economy, so I wanted to make it easier and more desirable for people to buy vintage pieces – there’s such a need for us to change our consumer habits. ‘cesar’ side tables by rodolfo dordoni for minotti

They may be some of Minotti’s smallest, most simple pieces, but the ‘Cesar’ side tables, designed in 2004, embody creative director Roldolfo Dordoni’s vision for the brand and his design principles: to make beautiful things ‘with a certain personality’ that are also ‘high-quality and long-lasting objects’. Part sculptural pieces, part furniture, the two designs – one an hourglass shape, the other a zig-zag-like form – were inspired by ‘a passion for Brancusi and his artistic stylisation of shapes’. Dordoni has transformed the brand with his cultivated vision since his arrival at the helm in 1998. An architecture alumni from the Polytechnic University of Milan, he follows in the footsteps of other illustrious Italian visionaries, such as Gio Ponti and Achille Castiglioni.
