On consideration, I’m amazed by the pointless endeavours and unnecessary commitments that used to fill my time, and am determined to recalibrate my approach to how I do things going forward. I’ve also been musing on the interiors industry as a whole, looking at what we feature on these pages and how we do what we do. I kept thinking of the phrase ‘style over substance’ – a criticism that’s often levelled at creative work which doesn’t stand up to scrutiny. And so I decided to reframe everything after…

artists & objects

‘Having studied sculpture, I’m always drawn to things made by hand,’ says Adam Watts, founder of new online destination Artists & Objects. ‘Handcrafted works have a unique quality and most pieces we sell are made specially for each customer. The makers have developed their skills over many years and their marks are left on each piece and tell a story.’ He describes the venture as a ‘constantly evolving edit of the best art and design being made in this country’, with many of the works in the collection unavailable to buy elsewhere. Online lifestyle stores may be nothing new, but the key difference that sets his brand apart is the curation: handmade terracotta vessels by Glasgow-based studio Manifesto rub shoulders with collectable furniture by Kenyan-born, London-based Arjun Singh Assa and artworks…
