welcome to the issue

THERE ARE SOME Christmas traditions I’m fully on-board with; not least, re-watching romcoms on repeat throughout December. On page 48, the writer behind this year’s version, Last Christmas, explores the phenomenon – arguing anyone hating on the festive period should give it a rest this year. Saying that, there is something hateful about traipsing up and down high streets trying to find perfect presents in a sea of sparkly tat. Which is why I hope you’ll find our 27-page gift guide a saviour. It offers suggestions for everyone from the men in your life who deserve more than socks to that tricky Secret Santa – and, crucially, you too! @hattie_brett / feedback@graziamagazine.co.uk…

over to you...

CHRISTMAS WISHES The Christmas present everyone wants is Brexit. Your story Welcome to Brexhog Day (11 Nov) brought up some important issues about the political rut our country is in. Regardless of whether you voted Remain or Leave, this charade has gone on long enough. We must be the laughing stock of the world. Recent polls that ask how people would vote in another referendum suggest 88% of those who backed Remain would do so again. Among those who voted Leave, 86% have not changed their minds. I think Britain would have stayed in the EU if they had compromised their laws, but they remain stubborn. I hope for a Deal but how long will that take? Hope Bryan SINGULARLY WRONG It takes a lot to make me put finger to keypad to…

new, improved me

OMG Grazia, you are literally saving me from myself, one week at a time. I’m talking, of course, about your Life Skills. I’ll admit, when it first appeared, I found it useful but was sceptical you could offer useful, doable, fundamental skills every week. But I’ve never been happier to be proved wrong! So far I’ve sorted my pension, found the courage to ask for a pay rise (I didn’t get it, but it felt good to assert myself ), learned not to be a cliché on email and, this week (11 Nov), edit my social media. Next stop, world domination!…

Taylor’s message shows women are controlled at every level “When Taylor Swift accepts an American Music Award for Artist of the Decade later this month, she won’t be able to perform some of her songs. Music mogul Scooter Braun and former label boss Scott Borchetta now own the songs and, Taylor alleges, are blocking her – as well as stopping the music being used in a Netflix doc of her life. As Grazia went to press, they denied they were blocking the use of her music. ‘The message being sent to me is very clear,’ she tweeted nonetheless. ‘Basically, be a good little girl and shut up. Or you’ll be punished.’ If such a powerful woman is allegedly being held to ransom, what chance do the rest of us have?”…

the faux-rangement: curse of a modern social life

MY FRIEND T IS GETTING strange, distancing vibes from her once-close friend B which culminated last week in some complex messaging manoeuvres. ‘Babe! Tell me you’re working in the East London office on Wednesday!’ B WhatsApped T. ‘I’ll be west,’ T WhatsApped back. ‘I’m always west on Wednesdays. You know that. You used to work there with me.’ ‘Nooooooooo!’ B replied. ‘I was totally going to invite you to dinner at INSERT NAME OF FASHIONABLE RESTAURANT HERE but now you can’t cos you won’t make it over in time! SAD FACE EMOJI’ ‘What time is the reservation?’ T asked. B did not reply. ‘Reckon I could get over there by 8.15,’ T clarified. B did not reply. ‘8, if traffic’s ok,’ T continued. B did not reply. T screenshots this chat stream, and sends it to me. ‘What the hell…
