the gold standard

It’s not every day you get to see an Olympic gold medal up close, let alone try one on. So when you get the offer — especially when it’s coming from Canadian ice dance legend Tessa Virtue, whose career you’ve followed for years — you say “yes” without hesitation. Our team was shooting at Tessa’s century home in London, Ont., last May when she pulled her prized hardware (two golds from the PyeongChang Games and one from Vancouver) out of — of all places — a kitchen cupboard. BRENT DARBY Photographer, “English Charm” (page 54)Based in London, England, Brent shoots his way around Europe and beyond. What accent piece defines your personal style? A Venetian street lamp. your letters

I’ve just finished reading the July issue and have realized why I enjoy House & Home so much. Unlike many home magazines, I think it’s great that you feature the real people behind the redos and include their stories. Please continue to do so and I’ll continue to subscribe. P.S. Beth’s editorials are a plus!— IRENE G.My mother would give a gentle sigh of recognition if she could see your June issue. The fruit-patterned wallpaper on page 25 (“Style Files”) looks like what she had in her kitchen (I especially remember the pineapples!). The sconces on page 32 (“More or Less”) reminded me of my old bedroom, and the cupboards on page 36 (“Tech Talk”) are just like Mom’s mid-’50s reno of our kitchen eating area. Mom would also chuckle…
